CosmicBreak 2 takes place in a universe inhabited primarily by highly advanced mechanical lifeforms known as “Cosmoloids” and organic lifeforms known as “Humanoids.” As a player, you will assume control of Cosmoloids and Humanoids and compete in the Cosmic League in order to win the ultimate prize – a Cosmo Piece.
CosmicBreak 2 features a variety of stages upon which the Cosmic League battles are held, each with their own unique appeal and mechanics. Players will be able to freely traverse each of these stages, using the terrain to their advantage. Whereas flying types will be able to simply soar over and around most obstacles, speedy ground types can jump off of walls to reach higher positions.
Many objects found within stages may be destroyed if they take enough damage. For example, a bridge offering unimpeded access to a nearby objective can be toppled by destroying the supports below it.
Map hazards and other random events will require players to stay on their toes while maneuvering through the stage. As an example, fragments of a Cosmo Piece may fall from the sky during battle. Players who manage to pick one up will receive a temporary boost. Once enough time has elapsed, a meteor might come crashing down instead, dealing stage-wide damage and altering the terrain for the remainder of the battle.
Destroying the support pillars on this bridge will cause it to crumple and break under its own weight.
In addition to terrain changes, the appearance of Cosmoloids and Humanoids will change as they take damage. As pictured below, character clothes and/or armor will allow you to discern critically damaged targets simply by looking at them.
Each species lived in relative peace until a mysterious form of matter was discovered on a border planet. The material came to be known as the Cosmo Piece for its seemingly endless applications. In time, it was discovered that the material was the product of accreted particles on planets with a certain type of gravitational field. Tensions grew between those vying for control over the planets which produced this precious matter until finally, hostilities erupted into full-blown war.
■The Cosmic League
After decades of brutal fighting and increasingly more powerful weaponry, a committee was formed to defuse the situation in a way that wouldn’t result in galactic annihilation. Their solution was the Cosmic League; a galaxy-wide tournament to determine a suitable owner for a Cosmo Piece. With strict rules in place regarding combat and the combined forces of every major political power behind it, the Cosmic League proved to be an effective method to arbitrate disputes over the rights to the next Cosmo Piece. With time, tensions eased and the Cosmic League gradually evolved into a spectator sport in which the winner would be declared the strongest in the galaxy.
Players assume control of robots and/or humanoids that enter the league, each with their own personal reasons to fight for the Cosmo Pieces being contested. In battle, players are divided into two teams and attempt to deplete the opposing team’s Battle Points before their own reserves run dry. While destroying enemy units serves to chip away at their Battle Points, the destruction of the opposition’s Base Towers will end the battle in your favor much more quickly. As time progresses, Base Towers will begin to spawn at different locations up to a maximum of 4 times.
